MW DXing: 1242 KHz Radio Sultanate of Oman



On 25 January 2015, 1242 KHz Radio Sultanate of Oman, broadcasting from Al Seeb, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman was received at 2326 UTC. It was received just off the coast of Lumut, Perak, in Northern Malaysia, nearby Pangkor Island. Target area is South Asia.

RX: Tecsun PL-310 ET + ferrite rod
SINPO: 32333 + fading and atmospheric noise
Distance: 5036.2 km (3129 mi)

MW DXing: 1440 KHz SBC Radio Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 

On 25 January 2015, 1440 KHz BSKSA Radio Riyadh, presumed to be from Ras Al Khair,
Dammam, Saudi Arabia was received at 1617 UTC just off the shore of Lumut, Perak in Northern Malaysia, nearby Pangkor Island. Transmitter power is 1500 kW (1.5 MW). Station target is unknown. Many thanks to Tarek Zeidan for the ID

SINPO: 43434 + fading with clear Arabic male voice
Distance: 6028.7 km (3745 mi)

15000 kHz WWV and WWVH, as received in Malaysia

On 29 December 2015, WWV (Fort Collins, Colorado) and WWVH (Kekaha, Hawaii) 
were both coming together on 15000 kHz. As you can see in this video, WWVH is more stronger than WWV.

Sorry guys, for the delay of the IRC chatbox....

Since i'm busy with the shortwave listening hobby, and of course, other hobbies, my time for adding new stuff to the blog is limited. For the ones who wants to see my new chatbox, i have to say sorry for this. I'm in the process on getting the right IRC chatbox for this blog, and the process takes time and patience. So, many apologies for this, and stay tune for more updates and shortwave logs.



QSL cards, QSL cards and QSL cards.....

On 31 December 2014, my QSL cards from China Radio International and the Voice of Turkey both arrived in the mail. China Radio International confirmed my reception of the Malay service on 15.135 KHz, between 09:30 UTC to 09:45 UTC, while the Voice of Turkey confirmed my reception of the English service on 12.035 KHz, at different times. China Radio International gave me a nice, decorated QSL card, while the Voice of Turkey gave not just one QSL card, but two QSL cards. Not just that, they also gave me a tour guide about Istanbul and a cup coaster.

Radio Station WWV (Fort Collins, Colorado) 

Radio Station WWV*, transmitting from Fort Collins, Colorado (U.S.A.), was logged on 15 September 2014, 16 September 2014, 06 October 2014 and 11 October 2014. Transmission was monitored on 20 and 5 MHz at 11:50 UTC (15 Sept. 2014 - 5 MHz), 07:48 UTC (16 Sept. 2014 - 5 MHz), 12:10 UTC (16 Sept. 2014 - 5 MHz), 12:03 UTC (09 Oct. 2014 - 20 MHz) and on 05:11 UTC (11 Oct. 2014 - 20 MHz). On both days, transmission was best received between 06:55 to 07:35 UTC. 


Reception on 15 September 2014, 16 September 2014, 06 October 2014 and 11 October 2014 at various times was (SINPO) 35433 - fair signal with occasional fading, plus interference from time signal station WWVH (Kekaha, Hawaii) whom broadcasts on the same frequencies.

Reception reports was emailed on the same day, soon replied with follow up emails.
The QSL card confirming 5 MHz arrived in the mail on 1 October 2014, while the QSL cards confirming 20 MHz arrived in the mailed on 3 November 2014.

Voice of Turkey

Voice of Turkey was logged on 13 September 2014. TRT's transmission was monitored from 17:30 to 18:00 UTC with Turkish music being played from 17:30 UTC with station sign-off at 18:00 UTC with female announcer. Transmitter site: Emirler, Turkey. Reception on 15 285 KHz was (SINPO) 55545 - good signal strength, with only occasional fading for ten minutes and more.

Reception report was emailed on 27 September 2014. QSL Card arrived in the mailed on 29 October 2014.


China Radio International (Malay Service)

China Radio International - Malay Service was logged on 12 June 2014. CRI's transmission was monitored from 09:30 to 10:30 UTC with the "Salam (Peace)" program from 09:30 UTC to 10:00 UTC and "Bahasa Mandarin Harian (Daily Mandarin)" from 10:00 to 10:30 UTC with the station sign-off at 10:30 UTC with female announcer and interval signal. Reception on 15 135 KHz was (SINPO) 55555 - excellent signal strength. 

Reception report was emailed on 08 October 2014 along with another reception report. QSL card arrived in the mail on 10 January 2015, with the help of the English Service department of CRI.
